Charlotte Business Journal Names Monarch A Middle Market Leader

Monarch was one among 22 Charlotte-area businesses to receive the honor of Middle Market Leader by the Charlotte Business Journal and was awarded a plaque during a recognition ceremony on August 8.

The publication identified local, middle-market companies that play a critical role in the Charlotte region’s economy. They measured revenue growth, job creation and economic impact of companies from 16 area counties throughout the Charlotte area with annual revenue between $50 million and $2 billion. Annual revenue figures were verified by accounting firm Elliott Davis.

“In 1958, a small group of families and citizens organized in Stanly County to identify opportunities and support for people with disabilities in that single community because at the time very few to none existed. Today, we provide support to more than 30,000 people with disabilities and behavioral healthcare needs statewide. Now in our 61st year, this has been an extraordinary and surreal journey as a result of the hard work and dedication of the 1,800 Monarch staff members and with support from our board, partners, the community, and the vision of our President/CEO Dr. Peggy Terhune,” said Monarch’s Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, who accepted the honor in Dr. Terhune’s absence.

Martin walked up to the podium to receive the award to Journey’s song “Don’t Stop Believin’.” He explained that the theme song is a testament to the company’s founders, staff, leadership and supporters who have believed all along, that together, they could make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and substance use disorders by providing quality support and person-centered care.

“This recognition is a win for us all,” Monarch’s VP said.

In addition to a well-attended honoree dinner in Uptown Charlotte, the Charlotte Business Journal will feature Monarch and other 2019 Middle Market Leaders in its August 16 edition.
