Join Monarch for the 2022 Out of the Darkness Community Walks

Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States. In 2020, 45,979 Americans died by suicide and there were more than 1.2 million suicide attempts. The lives of family members, friends, co-workers and others who have been affected by these losses is staggering.

Each year, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention organizes Out of the Darkness (OOTD) Walks in hundreds of communities across the country to raise awareness about suicide and fund support, research, education programs, advocacy and support for survivors of suicide loss.

Last year, Monarch staff, people we support, as well as families and friends, participated in OOTD walks in Charlotte, the Triad, and Triangle. This year, we are expanding our participation to the Wilmington area and we invite you to join us at one of these walks! As one of North Carolina’s largest behavioral health providers, our presence and sponsorship of these events is important and you are invited to participate.

Mark your calendars now and encourage your family and friends to join us as well. If you work with a group of people we support that would like to attend, please invite them to participate. We’ll have special surprises for participants and look forward to joining with you to spread a message of hope and help in the communities we serve.
