Group Home Residents Hit the Town During Night to Shine

A Night to Remember: Monarch long-term services and supports residents who attended The Tim Tebow Foundation Night to Shine events included Thomas Cumbo, Schooner Shores group home; Chaundra Kittrell, Newport group home; and Paula Collins, Newport group home.

Residents of our Newport and Schooner Shores group homes in Carteret County dressed up and hit the town on Friday, February 10 during Night to Shine, a globally sponsored through The Tim Tebow Foundation.

The Tim Tebow Foundation promotes Night to Shine, an event designed similar to prom, as a free event for people living with disabilities, ages 14 and older, and hosted by churches around the world.

Schooner Shores group home Residential Manager Dorothy Godette explains that the Monarch residents were able to pick out gowns, suits, shoes and accessories available at the church before attending the event. She noted that much of the attire was donated by local thrift stores in the area and the event was organized by community volunteers.

“They were all given the complete royal treatment!” Dorothy shares about residents who participated in Night to Shine. “Our residents said this was one of the most amazing events they have ever attended and are looking forward to next year.”

Event highlights included photo booths, make up application and shoeshine stations, music, dancing and refreshments. Volunteers from the Cape Carteret community acted as chaperones, posing in the event photos with people supported. The Cape Carteret Baptist Church hosted the event.
