Monarch Healthcare’s Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) is located at the Stephen M. Morris Behavioral Health Center in Concord, NC.
Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) services provide a safe, structured place where children, teens and young adults can live for a period while getting intensive mental health treatment and support. The program is designed for young people up to age 18 who need more help than outpatient therapy can provide, often because they are struggling with serious emotional, behavioral or psychiatric challenges that make daily life unsafe or unmanageable.
Treatment is led by a Monarch psychiatrist and a team that may include therapists, nurses, occupational therapists and other mental health workers.
At Monarch, we combine clinical excellence with a warm, family-centered approach. Each child participates in structured therapeutic programming, academic support and skill-building activities designed to promote confidence, self-regulation and positive relationships. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and return home stronger and more hopeful.
Referrals are accepted from all North Carolina counties.

About Treatment at a PRTF
- Arrival and Welcome: When a young person arrives, staff greet them and explain what will happen next. Parents or guardians are involved in the process to make sure everyone feels comfortable.
- Assessment: A counselor or nurse talks with the young person and family to understand what’s going on. They ask questions about feelings, behaviors and health to create an appropriate plan for care.
- 24/7 Care and Supervision: Once admitted, kids stay at the facility full-time in a secure, supportive environment with trained staff always available. A typical stay may last from several weeks to several months, depending on the unique needs of the child.
- Comprehensive Treatment: Each young person receives an individualized treatment plan that may include: individual and group therapy, family therapy, medication management, as well as life and coping skills development.
- Structured Daily Schedule: Activities include therapy, life skills training, recreation and healthy routines, with supervision provided on-site and in the community, as young people progress through treatment.
- Education Support: Monarch’s PRTF provides on-site schooling and academic help so kids don’t fall behind.
- Safety and Stability: The environment is designed to keep young people safe while helping them learn coping skills and prepare for life at home.
