Respite Services offer temporary help to primary caregivers of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). These services allow caregivers to take breaks, handle emergencies or attend personal events, knowing their loved ones are well cared for.

Monarch’s Respite Services are provided for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the NC Innovations Waiver or through b3 Medicaid support. They must be provided in conjunction with another community-based service.

Respite care can be provided in various settings, including:

  • In-home care: Support given in the individual’s own home.
  • Out-of-home care: Services provided outside the home, such as in a caregiver’s residence or a specialized facility.

This flexibility ensures that both the individual and their family can choose the option that best fits their needs.

The main goals of Respite Services are to:

  • Promote independence: Help individuals with I/DD engage in activities that enhance their skills and participation in the community.
  • Support caregivers: Allow primary caregivers to rest and recharge, reducing stress and preventing burnout.
  • Ensure quality care: Provide individuals with I/DD the necessary supervision and assistance to meet their health, nutrition and daily living needs.
