Beginning July 1, the Executive Center at Piedmont Triad International (PTI) Airport will feature a vibrant new exhibit showcasing the expressive, colorful artwork of artists from Monarch’s Studio 651 Day Program in Winston-Salem, N.C. The exhibit includes a collection of paintings and sculptures created by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), offering visitors a glimpse into the creativity and talent nurtured within the program. Studio 651 is one of 17 day programs operated by Monarch across North Carolina. The programs are designed around each person’s individual interests and provide enriching activities that support independence, emotional well-being, and physical health for adults with I/DD. Studio 651 places a special focus on the creative arts, encouraging participants to explore painting, drawing, sculpture, and other forms of artistic expression, all of which will be on display at PTI through June 2026.
“The work of our Monarch artists is simply incredible,” said Dr. Peggy Terhune, CEO of Monarch. “We are delighted to partner with PTI to highlight the talent and creative spirit of our Studio 651 participants. We know travelers visiting the airport will find joy and inspiration in their work.”
Creative arts — whether visual, musical or movement-based — play a powerful role in enhancing communication, motor skills and self-esteem for individuals with I/DD. These forms of expression foster a sense of belonging and accomplishment, empowering artists to share their stories and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
“We’re honored to showcase the work of Monarch’s Studio 651 artists as part of our ongoing Art Program at PTI,” said Kevin Baker, Executive Director of Piedmont Triad International Airport. “This exhibit is a meaningful way to celebrate creativity while offering travelers a unique and inspiring experience as they pass through our terminal.”
A public reception celebrating the exhibit’s opening will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, at the Executive Center on the main terminal’s departure level. Monarch artists will be present to share insights about their work and connect with attendees.
