On April 2, Monarch leadership, board members and people receiving services visited the North Carolina General Assembly to meet with lawmakers.

The primary purpose of the visit was to thank legislators who had been instrumental in a $4 million directed grant received by UMAR, a division of Monarch, in 2024. That grant was supports the expansion of supported employment and community engagement opportunities for people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The delegation also spoke with Senator Jim Burgin, Representative Dean Arp and Representative John Bell about Monarch programs and services across the state, the potential impact of cuts to Medicaid and the need for an increase in Innovations Waiver slots for people with I/DD.
