Monarch, a leading provider of services for mental health, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injuries, expanded its reach to Rhode Island. This expansion marked an exciting opportunity to bring Monarch’s expertise to new communities and help individuals live independently with the support they need.
Monarch launched individual, community-based supportive living solutions in Rhode Island to help people with mental illness. The program focuses on providing individuals with the tools and resources to live independently in their own apartments while receiving personalized assistance from Monarch staff.
“Because of our experience with mental health and developmental disabilities residential services for people with significant needs, Monarch was invited to operate an innovative apartment program in Providence, Rhode Island,” explained Monarch President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Peggy Terhune, Ph.D., MBA, OTR/L. “This program gives individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities the opportunity to live independently with the support they need to thrive.”
A New Approach to Mental Health Care
Rhode Island sought to introduce creative alternatives to large, institutional mental health settings and group homes. Monarch’s supportive apartment model, which has been widely used in North Carolina, offers a fresh and innovative approach in Rhode Island.
Monarch staff provide tailored support to residents, helping them engage in treatment, connect with community resources and explore opportunities like volunteering or working.
Promoting Independence and Growth
Monarch’s Rhode Island program highlights the organization’s commitment to empowering individuals with mental health challenges to lead fulfilling and independent lives. By offering a person-centered approach, this initiative aims to create a lasting, positive impact on the lives of its participants.
