With encouragement, trust and compassion, Elizabeth Bradshaw turned setbacks into strength

When Elizabeth Bradshaw first connected with Monarch’s Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program, she was struggling to see a path forward. After losing her job and facing legal challenges, she describes that time as one filled with frustration and uncertainty.

“I had anger issues after getting in trouble and losing my job,” Elizabeth shared. “But the IPS team helped me manage my emotions and focus on my goals.”

Elizabeth had seen how Monarch supported her friend and thought that maybe the program could help her too. What she didn’t expect was how much the IPS team would impact not just her career, but her confidence, faith and overall outlook on life.

Building Trust and Rebuilding Confidence as a Team

When Elizabeth first met her Employment Peer Mentor, Brian Colson, she was quiet, guarded and unsure of herself.

“She was very shy and had low self-esteem,” Brian recalled. “One of the biggest challenges was breaking down communication barriers and earning her trust.”

Brian focused on health and wellness activities — simple moments that helped them connect in a relaxed way. “Over time, we began to laugh, joke and talk more openly,” he said. “That’s when her confidence really started to grow.”

As Elizabeth began to trust her team, she also began to trust herself again. She attended a hiring event that her Employment Support Professional, Mickey Lilly, suggested — and landed a job at Zaxby’s, where she continues to work successfully.

“IPS helped me build confidence by supporting me in recognizing my strengths and helping me focus on my employment goals,” Elizabeth said

Healing, Growth and New Goals

As she gained stability at work, Elizabeth started looking toward the future. With encouragement from her IPS team, she completed Home Health Aide training through Bayada and earned her certificate — the first step toward a more meaningful career helping others.

“My desire to help others who have trouble helping themselves inspired me to pursue a career in home health care,” she said.

Beyond work, Elizabeth’s personal growth has been just as profound. “IPS has helped me grow both mentally and physically,” she explained. “I’ve worked on my anger and improved my faith. I even joined a women’s group at church.”

Brian saw that transformation firsthand. “Elizabeth’s social skills have grown tremendously,” he said. “She can navigate changes and obstacles with more confidence and composure. Her attitude is so much more positive now; she’s really thriving!”

Looking Ahead with Hope

Elizabeth also dreams of one day opening her own business — perhaps a yoga studio or a Christian retail shop — where she can bring her faith and passion for helping others together.

“I feel hopeful about my future,” she said with a smile. “I would tell anyone thinking about using Monarch’s IPS services that they offer a variety of support services to help you grow mentally, physically and emotionally.”

Brian agrees. “With Monarch’s IPS services, you’re treated as an individual with your own goals and strengths,” he said. “Our approach is based on zero exclusion. Anyone who wants to work is welcome, regardless of their situation.”

Just as her friend’s success encouraged Elizabeth to take the first step, her own story now shines as an example for others who may be unsure of where to begin.
