What does Monarch do?

Monarch provides services and supports statewide to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and substance use disorders. Our goal is to help people live valued lives they want for themselves to foster independence, identify certain residential options, secure employment, find ways to become part of their communities, etc.

Who does Monarch support?

Monarch provides supports and services to both children as young as 3-years old as well as adolescents and adults. Required age for services may vary, depending on the service requirements in place. Monarch accepts Medicaid, Medicare and a variety of private insurances as well as private pay for services and has a sliding fee scale for services. Due to the variety of insurance plan types, it is important that you contact your insurance company for a complete list of in-network providers and Monarch services covered under your specific insurance plan. Monarch may not be an in-network provider for all plan types these companies provide.

Who do I contact to access Monarch services in my area?

Services for individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorders who receive Medicaid are managed by North Carolina’s managed care organizations (MCOs). This number varies as many people we support may only need us for a short period of time. In 2007, the agency provided support to approximately 3,000 please across North Carolina. Today, Monarch provides services statewide to nearly 30,000 people each year.
