Monarch Appoints Dr. Sharyn Comeau as Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs

Dr. Comeau joins Monarch’s executive leadership team and will oversee statewide medical administrative processes for Monarch’s behavioral health services.

Monarch, a statewide non-profit that provides support and empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and substance use issues, announced today that Dr. Sharyn Comeau has been appointed as Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs effective April 10, 2017. The newly created leadership role will ensure that all medical administrative processes for Monarch’s behavioral health locations across North Carolina meet the ever-evolving healthcare standards and continue providing excellent care for the people Monarch supports.

“Dr. Comeau has truly excelled over the three years she served as a psychiatrist at our Charlotte behavioral health office. She brings a wealth of knowledge and over 21 years of experience to this new role. Comeau will work closely with Monarch’s Medical Director, Dr. Robert McHale, to ensure that our clinical programs continue to provide great service across the state,” said Monarch CEO, Dr. Peggy Terhune.
As Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs, Dr. Comeau will be responsible for providing medical leadership at the community and state level, as well as internally at Monarch. As part of Monarch’s strategic plan, she also will help the organization foster positive relationships with local stakeholders, legislators, potential donors, and physician groups as it relates to behavioral health services.

Dr. Comeau is certified by the American Board of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, and completed her medical training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University and in general psychiatry at the University of Connecticut/Institute of Living. In addition, Dr. Comeau holds a medical degree from Ross University, a Master of Arts from New York University and a Bachelor of Science from Pace University.
