Know your numbers: Monarch hosts free health screenings provided by Novant Health on March 8 in Winston-Salem

Monarch and Novant Health know that health is a priority for many North Carolinians in 2017. A free health screening will be held on Wednesday, March 8 at Monarch’s Studio 651 in Winston-Salem.

Attendees will get valuable information about where their health stands and tips for improvement and how to stay on track.

Health professionals will examine and provide free screenings for the following metrics: Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Glucose, and Hemoglobin A1C.

Novant Health firmly believes the first step to empowering people to take charge of their health is helping them to understand their risk levels and the health-related behaviors that impact that risk.

“We are excited to be providing our services to the community that surrounds Monarch because the spirit of camaraderie and support that characterizes that organization is invaluable to the successful lifestyle modifications required to reduce health risks. Healthier individuals mean healthier families; healthier families mean healthier communities that grow and thrive together,” said the Director of Community Wellness and Education at Novant Health, Karen Sigmon-Smith.

Community Engagement Team Leader at Monarch’s Studio 651, Elizabeth Leavitt, agrees. In fact, she said there are plans to host more similar health events at Studio 651.

“This will not be the only community health screening provided by Novant Health that we will host. We intend to offer multiple community health screenings throughout the year. There is a great need for these kinds of resources focused on healthcare access and self-enrichment opportunities in our community, that is why we find it important to offer this opportunity,” said Leavitt.

In addition to free health screenings, Monarch will host a wide variety of health workshops determined by the needs of the local area. Workshops will range from weight management to healthy lifestyle information through Novant Health’s Community Wellness and Education program.

Registration for the event is encouraged because space is limited. Appointments are available from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 at Monarch’s Studio 651 located at 651 North Highland Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made by calling Novant Health at (336) 277-1880, or via e-mail to [email protected].
