Monarch’s Lighthouse Club of Currituck and Beach Club of Dare receive grants from The Outer Banks Community Foundation

The Outer Banks Community Foundation recently awarded grant support to Monarch’s day programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Outer Banks.

Monarch’s Beach Club of Dare, located in Manteo, received a $3,500 Special Focus Grant to provide the program with lightweight, moveable tables, chairs and storage.

“As the Beach Club moves to a new location later this year, this grant will allow us to maximize the use of our new, multi-purpose space,” said Community Engagement Team Leader Colleen Zoubek.

In its new location, the Beach Club will have a large common area which will be used for arts and crafts, dance and exercise and other daily activities. With easy-to-move tables and chairs, staff will be able to configure the room to best meet the needs of the program participants during each activity.

In addition, Monarch’s Lighthouse Club of Currituck located in Grandy, received a $5,000 grant award from The Pauline Wright Endowment for Currituck, which supports programs for individuals with Down syndrome and/or other intellectual and developmental disabilities in Currituck County.  The grant will support transportation costs for program participants who use public transportation to get to and from the Lighthouse Club daily.

“Given the size of Currituck County, transportation to and from the day program is critical. This support will ensure that program participants are able to safely get to the program where they can engage in a variety of social, educational and volunteer activities,” Zoubek noted.

Monarch works directly with the Inter-County Public Transportation Authority (ICPTA) to provide safe, accessible transportation to and from the Lighthouse Club of Currituck program.

“We are grateful for the continued support and partnership of The Outer Banks Community Foundation,” Zoubek concluded. “They are a wonderful investor in our programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”
