Monarch Names Chris Thompson Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer for Behavioral Health

Chris Thompson has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO) for Behavioral Health at Monarch and will become part of the organization’s executive leadership team. Thompson’s primary focus will be to oversee the important work of providing quality behavioral health care to communities across North Carolina.

Monarch President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Peggy Terhune appointed Thompson to this executive leadership role last month. After working eight years for the organization, Thompson, who most recently served as senior vice president of behavioral health operations, will oversee statewide behavioral health operations and assist with Monarch’s service expansion. He previously held positions as vice president of operations and behavioral health budget director at Monarch. Prior to Monarch, Thompson worked for more than 10 years within the nonprofit sector.

Chris’ role will be essential to our growth and expansion.”

As EVP/COO of Behavioral Health, Thompson will lead the implementation of new services such as the CCBHC and behavioral health urgent care site in Wake County, as well as help to develop clinical practice guidelines and standard operating procedures. Thompson will oversee outpatient services, crisis services, auxiliary services and Monarch’s enhanced services such as Assertive Community Treatment teams (ACTT), Intensive In-Home Services and Supported Employment Services.

Thompson earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from Pfeiffer University and received his bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University. He resides in Fort Mill with his family.
