Monarch provides high-quality and trauma-informed care in a nurturing environment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and substance use disorders across North Carolina. The care we provide is based on each individual’s needs and is delivered through a customized treatment plan, designed to help each person we support achieve what is most important in his or her life. Since 1958, Monarch has been a statewide provider of comprehensive specialty mental health and human services.
And as one of North Carolina’s largest non-profits, we take pride in offering trauma-informed, quality care for people with mental illness, substance use disorders and intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Monarch’s Crisis Services include several Crisis Centers around the state and Mobile Crisis Management support. These trauma-informed services are for people who are experiencing a crisis and are in immediate need of the proper care.
We offer person-centered support designed to improve the range of mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities care for those with chronic and complicated disabilities.
Outpatient Services (Open Access)
When the need for Monarch’s services is immediate, Open Access encourages individuals to simply walk-in for the first appointment in order to jump-start the road to recovery.
Peer Support Services
Monarch now offers Peer Support Specialist Certification Training, enabling you to assist your peers in a variety of ways as it pertains to their struggles.
We provide a variety of options that help the people we support find a place that truly feels like home and fosters positive relationships.
After listening to an individual’s interests and goals, we formulate a plan and teach them skills they need to achieve their goals.
Our professionals help people thrive in their communities by teaching them how to build relationships, go to school, find their dream job and more.

ShopMonarch.org for a creative and colorful collection of gift items and artwork created by artists at Monarch’s Studio 651 day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. You’ll find jewelry, magnets, coffee mugs and more which feature designs created by program participants. Items make great birthday, anniversary, housewarming and Secret Santa gifts. Monarch’s creative arts day programs, like Studio 651, support expression through the arts and engagement in the local community through volunteering, supported employment, recreation and exercise activities, participation in community events and more.
