Monarch resident medals in three events
Stanly county resident takes home two golds and a silver

Albemarle, N.C. – Like other people supported by Monarch, Christopher “Jimmy” McClure, 44, had a dream. His dream was to win a gold medal and after three years of trying he now holds two and a silver. McClure took home three medals as one of 1,500 participants in the North Carolina Special Olympic Summer Games in Raleigh, N.C in June. He won gold medals in the softball throw and standing long jump events and a silver in the 50-meter walk event.

“Jimmy performed outstanding and displayed superb sportsmanship,” said Samuel McIntyre, a Monarch staff member who accompanied McClure.

Athletes from across the state competed in athletics, aquatics, golf, gymnastics, powerlifting, softball or volleyball at the games held in Raleigh and Cary. McClure was one of eight members of the Stanly county contingent.

McClure placed first in softball throw with a 17.8 meter throw. His standing long jump measured 1.330 meters, and his second-place finishing time in the 50-meter walk was 18.83
