| Monarch Celebrates Job Successes |
Winston-Salem, N.C. – Close to 200 people gathered at Behavioral Health Plaza Auditorium to honor more than 60 people with disabilities who have managed to find employment this past year or who have met milestones in their jobs. A reception was held immediately after the award ceremony at Monarch’s Forsyth Industrial Systems where attendees were able to meet with the honorees and enjoy refreshments. Individuals employed through Monarch’s Forsyth Industrial Systems, Monarch’s New Horizons Enterprises, and Monarch’s Stokes Opportunity Center were honored at this annual event.
In a time when our economy is experiencing significant turmoil, the achievements of these individuals is all the more reason for celebration. Many have found work or are celebrating as many as 5 or 10 years of employment at their jobs. With the additional obstacles people with disabilities face in finding work, their success is all the more significant. With the help of Monarch’s Vocational Rehabilitation team and the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, many individuals continue to pursue their dream of working to support themselves.
Kevin Hiatt, Employment Specialist at Monarch, helps to find work for people with disabilities. “When given the opportunity, people with disabilities can and will achieve independence. Our goal is to increase full inclusion in our community for our fellow citizens with disabilities and to find meaningful, productive employment for each of them. Employers tell me that we have some of their most reliable and hardest working people.” Anita Mendoza at Habitat for Humanity values her organizations’ relationship with the people at Monarch. “(We have) had the great fortune to hire Shereda from Monarch. The challenge we face in the Habitat ReStore to raise the number of donations is great. Shereda has increased the ability to garner donations for the ReStore, which is one of our greatest sources of funding to enhance our family service and building fund programs. We value our relationship with Monarch and endorse the work they do in our community.”
