Monarch to Continue the Work of Pinetree
Monarch selected as provider of services for people previously supported by Pinetree

Aberdeen, NC – Effective immediately, Monarch will provide services to a number of families and individuals previously supported by Pinetree Community Services in the following counties: Moore, Hoke, Richmond, Anson, Lee, Montgomery, and Cumberland.

Approximately 370 individuals and 175 Pinetree staff have joined Monarch as Pinetree allocates its caseload to providers capable of fulfilling their clients’ needs. Monarch’s ideals and values allow them to continue the work of Pinetree in spite of the many changes and funding cuts so deeply affecting individuals receiving services and their providers.

Monarch will be specifically responsible for the operation and management of the following areas:

Behavioral Health – Intensive In-Home, Community Support Team, Mental Health Case Management;

Residential Living – homes for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities including 9 group homes and community based CAP-MR/DD Services (Community Alternative Programs which provide everyday skills assistance to adults with Mental Retardation or Developmental Disabilities);

and Work Placement – vocational day center in Moore County and employment services which include Vocational Rehabilitation and CAP Supported Employment. Monarch executives are working closely with Pinetree’s Board and leadership team to ensure that the people they support experience a smooth transition with no lapse in support or familiar faces.

This change comes as a result of the ever growing challenges many providers face in the current economy and severe cuts to funding by North Carolina Legislature. Few providers can operate with the limited funds and still maintain regulatory minimums set forth by the very same legislature. In order to provide the best service their current clients, Pinetree looked to a strong provider with a similar mission and vision to continue uninterrupted support. As the transition occurs, the Pinetree brand and organization will be known as Monarch and all staff and individuals supported will be part of the Monarch family.

Sheryl Zerbe, Chief Operations Officer at Monarch, has been working diligently with staff and families supported to create a smooth transition for everyone involved. “We are humbled by Pinetree’s selection of Monarch to continue the exceptional care they began years ago. Both staff and families have shared their excitement about new possibilities and approaches to help people live valued and meaningful lives in their communities and reach their dreams.”

The addition of Pinetree Community Services comes upon the heels of additional growth in the Sandhills area experienced by Monarch in early 2010. Today, Monarch provides services in 55 counties across North Carolina supporting more than 3400 people.

Monarch provides support and resources to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, and substance abuse issues throughout North Carolina. Monarch is a nonprofit organization and is an affiliated chapter of The Arc of North Carolina and The Arc of the United States.
